Tamar Telecom team complete 3 Peaks Challenge

By 1st July 2019park news

Two of the Tamar Telecom team have completed the 3 peaks challenge! Hiking the three tallest mountains in the UK in 24 hours.

Starting with the highest of the 3 mountains in the 3 peak challenge is Ben Nevis, Scotland. Ben Nevis was once a huge volcano which exploded and collapsed in on itself millions of years ago.

This was the longest climb of the three but high spirits got Dan and Phil off to an enthusiastic start and they completed the hike in a great time.

From Ben Nevis they headed to Scafell Pike. The lowest summit of the 3 peaks Dan and Phil were both hoping this would be a nice middle mountain…wrong.

“Scafell Pike was the hardest mountain of the three. It was just constant, steep incline which was exhausting going up and really tough on the knees coming down. That’s one thing we didn’t anticipate, coming down the mountains was genuinely harder than going up.” Said Dan.

Finally, they reached Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales standing at 3560ft.

“I must admit there were several points on Snowdon where we just weren’t sure if we could keep going. Our bodies were physically exhausted by this point and fast, cold winds weren’t great for keeping up morale. We just kept pushing each other and took it 1 step at a time.” Said Phil.

Both Dan and Phil finished the three peaks challenge in 23.5 hours. Dan explained, “I can honestly say it was the hardest thing I have ever done, and I know Phil agrees with me. We put months of training into this so to finish the challenge is such a great feeling. We both just want to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who supported us along the way. We’ve nearly hit our fundraising target of £1,000 which is amazing, people have been very generous. We can’t wait to get the money to the incredible people at the Children’s Hospice South West to help them continue their inspiring work.”

The purpose of the challenge is to raise money for Tamar Telecoms charity of the year, The Children’s Hospice South West.
